Momentive is building a culture around encouraging employees to give back to the communities where they live and work. Through our Team Gives Back program, employees can request matching and Dollars for Doers grants from Momentive for the causes they care about most.

In recognition of their generosity, we’re highlighting one employee each quarter who is living our #standforequality value through volunteer work. This quarter we’re recognizing Daaimah Tibrey, a remote employee located in Northern California. With this recognition, Daaimah will receive $500 USD to donate to a charity of her choice.

We sat down to talk to Daaimah about her favorite charities and her interest in volunteering in the interview transcribed below.

Tell us about what you do with your volunteer time

I provide career counseling and technical mentorship to parents trying to transition into technical roles with Code Tenderloin. I also serve on the board of Techtonica as the Graduate Alumni Representative.

What is your favorite charity?

Aside from Code Tenderloin and Techtonica, my favorite charity would be San Francisco Hamilton Families. They help families find stable, temporary and permanent housing, connect them to learning and employment resources, all while aiding them in reaching welfare betterment goals.

Why do you volunteer?

I have met very few organizations that truly work to remove obstacles and barriers to entry into technical roles within this field. Code Tenderloin helps people secure the bag all the way from the start (i.e. finding housing or even interviewing clothes, right up to taking coding classes). Techtonica has built an ecosystem truly embodying social-tech-for-good, as they have created a learning system specific to Women and Nonbinary Adults as well as built pathways for guaranteed entry into tech. I might be biased, as I am alumni from both organizations, but their missions, and what they are doing is truly changing lives!

Employees are encouraged to bring their whole selves to work just as Daaimah has by sharing her passion for giving back with us.  You can read more about the ways Momentive supports the community  in our 2021 Social Impact Report.
